I had hurt my knee a long time ago. It had swelled up and turned purple. I still have a lot of problems with it like constant pain, swelling, kneecap dislocating. What could be wrong with it? I was told it could be arthritis but the dr I was seeing is a quack and doesnt even remember seeing me so I dont want to take her oppinion since she isnt sure.

So this was one specific injury that you can remember started this? Do you remember hearing a popping kind of sound? Did you seek medical attention for it at the time.

My best educated guess is that you've torn a ligament or tendon, but again, you need to see a specialist to verify that. If your doctor's a quack, don't be afraid to get a new one.

Also, there is a simple blood test you can take to check for arthritis, you might want to request that, and just find out if arthritis really is in the picture or not for sure.

Go to an orthopedic surgeon. Until they xray it, and evaluate it, you cannot be sure. It could be arthritis, cracked or damaged cartilage, or torn ligaments.

See a specialist and dump the quack.

Joint pain or stiffness of the joint may be caused by overexertion, injuries, arthritis, muscle pain, bursitis and other diseases. Depending on the cause of the joint pain, joints on both sides of the body and small or large joints may be affected. Some types of joint pains can be completely cured but for other types of joint pain (like pain caused by osteoarthritis), treatment will only reduce the pain.
