I'm in the UK and I'm sure this applies worldwide. It may cost Billions to set up but surely it would be worth it. Take DNA from EVERY baby born - all crimes would be easily solved, bodies could be identified - thus saving Billions in police time. Many will say its against human rights of privacy, blah blah blah, but if you have done nothing wrong what have you to gain from not giving DNA?

because of leftie do-gooders like the guy saying he is a free man- freedom comes at a price. you are not as free as you think. our societies have rules and regulations- unfortunately our jails are full of those who cannot live within them. keeping a sample of dna is hardly the same as tattooing a serial no. on you. there must be safeguards to prevent this information being abused but if helps bring murderers and rapists to justice i am prepared to waive some of my civil liberty.

It is all about our Civil Rights.

No one has the right to take sure a vital piece of your identity for no apparent reason.

If the police have your DNA then yes it would probably reduce the levels of crime but also they have the resources to place you at any crime even if you were there or not. an over zealous pc might be so convinced that they can plant it.

Also if you decide to become anything from a criminal master mind to a petty thief then you have every right to have the chances that every other criminal has had since crime began.

They have a program in US where they give you a drop of the baby's blood in a special envelope that can be used if you ever need to give DNA to police, etc. It is a voluntary program but I did it when I gave birth to my son last year. I don't think you can make anyone give their DNA to something like that even though it sounds like a decent idea. Someone would abuse the system and it would fail. Maybe if they came up with a good way to go about it but they would still have to make it voluntary. Think of the people who don't give birth in hospitals, it would be harder to enforce than you may think. The human rights groups would never allow it to pass.

It is more then just a question of this being against human rights, the larger question is what liberties will this allow leaders to take with other privacy issues. If the "powers that be" have access to all the information and contents of our bodies as children imagine what they will be able to do to us as adults. The principle that would set is not a positive one, if they have freewill and access to our childrens bodies, what will they gain later. History has proven that things very rarely end with one action - one thing leads to another.

Besides all of the big brother issues, I pose this to you:

How easy would it be to get away with crime? Why wouldn't I go around to barber shops and pick up all of the hair they've swept up? I could plant it at any crime I do.

Anything that can be used for evidence can be planted.

The idea that if you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about is BS. Why not just allow police to knock on every door and search every house? I mean, if you have nothing to hide......

i actually agree with u i mean countires spend billions on money on stupid shi*t like weapons and stuff that half the time they don't need like in australia they are thinking of spending a million $$ or something from us the tax payers money on ART i mean i like art and all but it could be used for something that is important. So I don't see why they shouldn't do that of what you say, like you say it'll deffiently catch like a serial killer before they take too many lives, rapers, phetaphiles all of that so much easier and so much more safefor the people of the world

You might as welll stamp a serial number across my head.

If / When I.D. cards are introduced I will be refusing to carry one. I will become a prisoner of justice. It's not anybody's business to know who I am.

I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A FREE MAN!!!!!

well, a little more than crime solving is involved, your genetic diseases, your potential for learning, some facts about your behavior will be found and might become available to people and entities you don't want.
You'll live under a glass dome.
