Reagan was a great politician and orator. Bill Clinton learned from him. Bush (2) combined Clinton's everyday quality with Reagan conservative politics.

Regan gave us the neoconservatives. Therefore he gave America the worst gift. He was a so-so president. Did a good job sailing the cold war to its (already in process and would of happened anyway) end.

Carter was smart, but not so great at bringing everyone together. Actually he kind of started the conservative movement ironically. Mediocre president.

Clinton did good, got a lot done. This is a special feat being he had 6 years of an opposing congress and was fighting lawsuits and impeachment trials. One of the smartest yet personally stupidest presidents.

Recent Times? If it weren't for Vietnam, LBJ would have been great, oh well.... Bobby Kennedy looked promising, but not to be.

Nixon actually did some good things, progessive LIBERAL things. But he was also a crook.

Bush 1 was okay, especially since he wasn't afraid to be a moderate in an (actually) moderate country. If Clinton wasn't such a great politician, he probably would have won. Glad Clinton did though. Of course, Clinton gave us Bush 2. He basically destroyed Gore's chances, and ushered in a (likely brief) era of conservatism.

In conclusion, there were no great Presidents in recent times. The last "Great" President? Roosevelt. Okay, Truman was okay too. So was Kennedy, but his time was so short.

I forgot about Ford....okay that enough said about him (hey, he tried his best in a difficult situation.) He's a really nice guy at least.

Bush 2. Hmm, well he'll certainly have a bigger place in the history book than most. He'll be more well known than Reagan someday. Wonder what he'll do in "retirement"? Can't see him on talk shows like Clinton. The most contraversal president in recent history. Probably the most hated. Certainly not to be considered great.

How recent ? I'd go with Ike, if I can. But later than that Carter - JC is certainly the best Ex-President.

NOTE: I'm not a Dem or Rep - I'm a radical moderate independent voter.

I look for a president that does what W SAID he was going to do - be a uniter. The president represents the wishes of ALL 300 million Americans - how can an extreme president on the left OR right represent the views of all 300 people ?

But, when the wheel REALLY hits the road & we need a strong president (as opposed to a self-created crisis), THEN we need a person of character & not some weasel who will give up the very rights that the country is fighting to protect.

The American spirit was low during Carter. Inflation was rapid, we had hostages in Iran, and a failed rescue attempt.

Reagan gave the nation a feeling of security, and was a good communicator, but drove the nation in dept higher than anytime until Now! Killed many social programs, put mentally ill people out on the streets, and fired air traffic controllers.

Clinton was a great communicator as well. Had a surplus when he left office, and was very popular! He couldn't keep his pants up though, and many people were offended by that.

Bush invaded the wrong nation, has the highest debt ever, violates the Constitution, and refuses to tell people the truth.

All in all I think Clinton was the Best

He was really the last REAL President we've had. He's attacked real issues, tore down 'The Wall', looked evil in the eye and took care of business. So what about that one wee little scandle with weapons. It's not like Billy-Jeff and Bluedressgate, Wag The Dog and the rest of the BS he put us through. And Gorealoni trying to steal the elections with that FloriDUH recount where Chad had a zillion different ways of meaning Gore.

And Carter was (and remains) a peanut brain. He's the one that took the Shaws out of power and put in the militant islamists that now rule Iran. Dumbarse.

I think history will recognise that Ronnie was the one who engineered the end of the cold war, helped give democracy a chance in Russia and more than anything else reduced the threat of nuclear war significantly.

Bill Clinton probably achieved more than almost any other president despite his sexual problems and continues to use his great influence for peace and goodwill.

The worst by far has to be George W. Bush who has made America many enemies, even turning allies of the US against it. History will I am sure come to judge him not just as the worst president but also as an international criminal. (Gitmo, Rendition, Secret prisons, other atrocities yet to fully come out).

So Ronnie number one, closely followed by Bill.

Voted greatest American by viewers of the Greatest American discovery program - and that is full of liberals too... Bush actually beat Clinton in the line up - lol - but then again - Oprah beat them both - LOL

He had a vision of the world and that vision was fulfilled - he was unwavering in his beliefs and able to communicate that vision to all Americans - hence why he is so hated by the dems - He was truly incredible - he is missed.

Regan broke the curse.
Every president that was elected into office in a year that ended in 0 had been killed while in office. He was the only one to survive the assassination attempt. lucky for George W. I'd say.
