I finished building my own computer about 2 months ago, but when I came home from school today, I wouldn't turn on. I checked the power cord, so that isn't the problem. However, I can get NO signs of life from my computer. Even the light on the motherboard won't turn on, indicating that it is not receiving power of any kind. Can anyone tell me what is the problem?

My CPU temp actually has dropped to around 55 C about a month ago, is this still hot enough for the CPU to fry, that seems a little extreme to me.

this is the your system
2.8GHz Pentium 4, I have 1 GB of DDR RAM, and my video card is a 64 MB PCI n-vidia GeForce 4000.
as your CPU has been running at 65 c you need a new CPU when there is no CPU function the board usually fails so the thermal fuse in the power pack keeps triping hence no power this will happen each time the computer is switched on

Since you built it yourself, it could be anything. Most likely it is the power supply. I'd check the connections to the motherboard first. Doubtful it would fail after only a couple of months. I would check to make sure the "on" switch on the back is turned on, etc. If you still have no joy after checking all the connections, replace the power supply. If you bought a cheap one, it could have already failed. I suggest buying Antek. Best in the business.

First, test your power supply module. Generally, this would the first problem. If your power supply turns out to be good start ruling out other possibilities.

Pull all cards from your motherboard (modem, ethernet adapter, additional sound cards or any cards attached to the motherboard) and disconnect all drives.

Next, boot your computer and check for signs of life. If your computer comes to life, your problem lies in one of the items you pulled. It could be a conflict or a defect. Begin re-connecting drives (HD first). With each connect, test for power-up and continue doing so until you find your problem.

Did you check the circuit breaker or the fuse in your house? Make sure the power cord is plugged in all the way on both ends of the wall and the computer's power port.

Most probably it is the problem from the supply. Either supply is not reaching smps.Or smps is faulty. You would better call a hardware technician to have a look at it.
