1.) Offensive line, plain and simple... establish a run game..
2.) Marty is a coward. he does not have faith in Rivers or he would have. Rivers did not prove to anyone he is and was more valuable then Big Ben and has yet to do so.
Rivers one long completion should have been called back because Sapp was held. Refs missed that one didn't they?
And the retarded call against Moss, Can we say Refs in the side pocket.
Now I am not bitter, the Raiders (my Team) sucked and the offensive line should be ashamed to take a paycheck for that game but try having the refs call every little thing constantly and completely miss the other teams antics and see if it doesn't start to wear. That is why Al Davis has sued them and won more then once.

The Charges are a good team playing a very bad team. Oakland's defense is poor, their QB is horrible and their offensive line was really bad as well. The Chargers capitalized on the Raider's weaknesses.
In Football, you do what ever works for you and gets you that win. If you have such a dominant/explosive running back vs. a defense which can't stop the run (plus running the ball kills the clock) why you bother throwing the ball? I can understand though, since it was a blow-out, you could have given your QB more real-time practice by letting him through the ball. But I had LT in the pool not Rivers so I'm happy.

To your first question. Yes the Raiders are that bad. They are going to have a long year. As Randy Moss said, things are a mess.
Question 2: This is why Marty never wins the big one. He is a coach that doesn't trust his players. By running on 1 and 2 and then passing on third, your QB doesn't have a chance to make easy completions. I can see not passing on 3rd and 17 just run something safe punt and let your defense do the rest.
Eventually the Chargers will run up against a defense that can stop the run and Rivers won't be ready to carry the team. He will eventually have to bring the Chargers from behind, however, Marty is showing him he doesn't have confidence in his abilities at QB. I would call more 1st and 2nd passes against run defenses and run the ball some against nickle packages to build up confidence.

The answer to the 1st question is...the Raiders have been too busy trying to be the badasses of the NFL or assembling players that WERE good to win. That, and Al Davis is livin' in the '70s. He doesn't have a clue and isn't man enough to admit it to himself.
As for the 2nd question...I don't think it's such a bad idea, but it was certainly excessive. Marty is trying to imitate Cowher and bring Rivers along slowly. However, Marty is far too conservative in doing it...he ain't letting the kid pass and all handing the ball off to LT is going to do is make him good at handing off, not passing, which is, last I checked, what a QB's job is. Right now, I'd say we're at Roethlesberger>Manning>Losman>Rivers...and Losman may actually be in the better enviroment insomuch as learning how to play QB goes...

As a long time Raiders fan - I've about reached the limit. I think until Al Davis is dead or sells the club, they're gonna suck.
As for Rivers - it wasn't a bad strategy for his first professional game, to hand the ball off alot, especially if he's got TOmlinson in the back field. Charagers managed almost 200 yards rushing & comprehensively won the game.
I'd be surprised to see Rivers throw more than 15-20 times in more than 1 or 2 games this year.
Hey - at least you have a team that has some potential this season - it's already over for the Raiders & the QB controversy is already started (and we COULD have drafted Matt Leinart) ************ ****** ******** **** !

The Oakland Raiders are a 1-5 or 2-14 team right now; that about says it all for them, I think.
As for Rivers, why throw the ball when the Raiders are prefectly content to do nothing the entire game? Wait until they face a QB who isn't totally green, then the'll really suffer.

The Raiders are only as bad as their weakest link, which happens to be Art Shell at the moment, who was never a very good coach and I have no idea why he is back.
With Rivers handing the ball to L.T, I would not have him pass if it was not required either.

The Raiders suck. Phil Rivers came from the ACC, so he fits in perfectly. The ACC sucks too.

i think your chargers are just that good.....and if running the ball works why change it? let rivers learn how to read the defences for awhile..if LT is gonna run wild like he did last night just keep givin it to him.. he is the best back in football!!
