Why is it that only in the US is Football called soccer, when it is really played with a foot 8or feet) and a ball...sounds more like football to me...at least that's what they call it in the rest of the world.

OK, but lets be logical, American Football in hardly played with the feet, it's more of a hand game right?

Because when Football arrived to the US in 1869 it didn't have another name. The first Football game was played following the Cambridge College rules (which evolved to modern Football -soccer), Americans favored the Rugby College Rules and the sport took it's own path in America but nobody bothered changing it's name when it became a different sport.
Football is also known as soccer in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and I have seen it published in 'The Sun' and 'The Guardian' in England.

Carryover from English slang. You'll find that Most British Commonwealth nations and the US call it Soccer, or at least recognize it as "football".

Because they seem to think that a game played predominately played with the hands can be called football!!!

Actually in Australia it is called soccer too. We have our own form of football.

Because thats the name us English gave to the sport that we can't play very well. Same as cricket.

its the same reason why all america's world atlas's and maps has america in the centre, its hard for them to see other countries cultures as anything other then a vacation possibilty or a pesky annoyance

becouse of languege .fotball is british but soccer is american.
