It'll get a bit hot but that's what fans are for, also not blanking the screen will be damaging to it but there isn't any actual reason for not leaving it on all the time apart from reducing it's lifespan.

The hard disk is mechanical, a spinning motor will wear out. They might be very, very good motors but there are still moving parts that wear. Who knows what the heat build up will eventually do to other components. Bit of a waste of power too.

What sort of time frame were you thinking of? A couple of days shouldn't be an issue. Use the power managers to turn off the screen or hard disk when not in use, put the processor into power save mode when it's not done anything for a while. Stuff like that will extend the life of the machine.

No, I would not leave a laptop ON all the time, and here's why.

You do not need to have your battery kept warm. Let it be cool during OFF times. This may extend it's life.

Most laptops have heat build-up problems. Even in standby mode, some heat is produced. Turning it off is best.

Yes, plan to turn your computer on just a couple of times during the day. On again, off again is bad.

You should be using the CHECK NOW option in the TOOLS section of your C drive Properties. If you are ON and OFF all the time, then a weekly test would be great.

Be safe, laptops are the number one stolen item in America. Drug users love to turn someone's laptop into instant CASH.

A laptop is not a workstation. It is designed for minimal use and as such should be powered down after each use. The probled is power management and heat. There are products to help control the massave ammunts of heat generated by these devices, but it is still a good idea to only have it powered up while in use.

I hope this helps,

Its ok to leave your laptop on for the day, but I would strongly recommend shutting it off at the end of the day. The batteries used in laptops tend to run hot and can, over time, reduce the life of your laptop.

It's generally fine, but you may want to save your LCD screen life by setting it to turn off automatically after it's not in use for so long. Also, it's a good idea to reboot your computer every once in a while, especially if you start experiencing slow-downs or other problems.

If it is connected to the internet, and by this I don't mean actively connect but has a line into a jack or modem, no computer should be left on. Others can phish from it. Otherwise, I do believe a laptop will go into hibernation after awhile....mine does.

The battery life is shortened by the heat of your laptop otherwise there is no issues.

You should go into you power settings in the control panel to manage the behavior of your laptop.

Yep. I leave mine on all the time. When I get home, I turn it on... and it's on all the time. It goes to sleep when I ignore it. Have done it for years and NEVER had a failure due to overheating or screen malfuction

if you use it frequently during a day , it is better to leave it on (stand by) but for more hours (like night till morning) it is better to shut it down.

I let it go into hibernate state which is basically off but remembers all setting.
