It's just that some of the seagulls I saw on the weekend at a UK beach were extremely large for "young" seagulls and appeared to outnumber the whiter seagulls. My companion at the beach assured me that these were all "young" seagulls, despite the fact there were so many of them and a lot of them looked somewhat decrepit. My theory was there were different species of seagulls present in the UK with different levels of grey plummage. Can anyone settle this argument for me. Cheers

If you like to watch birds you have a little dilemma. Most birds are easy to identify, but hard to find.... you have to travel all around to see them. Gulls are easy to find (just go to the beach with a bag of bread!!!!) but hard to identify. There are different species, but they look really similar, and when they are young they are twice as hard to identify. There are lots of good bird books that show exactly (well, OK, not exactly, but pretty much) how this works. Check your local library or the web for a bird group near you. They can explain this stuff. Good luck!

Are all grey seagulls young or are there different species of seagulls that are grey once fully grown?

Here in the US there are different colors of seagulls. Some are white, others grey, some have black on them. Also some are grey and white. So any combination of white, grey and black are all seagulls

the young seagulls are not really gray..they are sort of brown and speckled looking. Most seagulls when full grown are white and gray, some having some black (Bonaparte's and Laughing Gull have black heads. Don't know of any adults that stay this brown color that they are when young.

So far with this job I've had no boss during the evening. And so far, the boss I talk to right before work is pleasant. It does help the work place when you don't have someone on a power trip.
