its, 7:30 am where i live. It tells me to go pick a Realm , but doesnt
give me any choices. This is my first week playing. So I dont
know whats going on

Tuesday is the weekly "patch day" - there's normally a downtime of a few hours running until maybe noonish EST - some weeks it's faster than others.
This week is further complicated by a *lot* of realms being down for extended periods due to a massive server upgrade. There's... maybe 20-30 servers that have downtime extended until later today, and around 40 that are expected to be down until sometime Wednesday.
If you go to the worldofwarcraft.com website and go to the Realm Status forum, you should be able to get all the details.

It's Tuesday so it's updateing and should be good in a few hours.
