i am uk born and bred (english) and have not been on yahoo q&a for long but have noticed that there are lots of you putting the american people down, why is this because in my opinion the average american is not too different to us here in the uk,those i have met and worked with have been ok and i have never had any problems, is it because they speak their minds or what ?, i am not being patronising so do not need any crass remarks, be honest and say why without any insults (i wish) after all they are our allies

cause people who insult the Americans are ignorant

Ask Bush and his Bush-Men. They know the correct answer. People don't hate the Americans in general. They hate the American policies which are being concocted by their leaders. And these leaders have been pulling wools over the American public eyes for so long. The average people of the world want the American public to wake up from their stupor.
Those who insult the Americans are less patronising to understanding the 'unreal' situation the general American are going through right now.
There are 'hard' non Americans as there are 'hard' American public servants. There are millions of nice Americans as there are millions of nice people outside the USA.
In short, those insulters are probably angry.

Let me say to dragon w/pprle pnts: the majority of the vote was not for Bush. .. the first or the second time. . .it was more like 50/50. . . .and some people only voted for him because the are die hard repubs. Also, some voted for him because the other candidates had incorrect rumors about their positions on abortion and gay marriage. Most other countries are just jealous of American people, just ignorance if you ask me. We only want peace and to help others and freedom. . .. . .

P.S. Please let me add that most Americans ARE descendants from other countries. . . stop the hate, it really is becoming ridiculous. If you dislike Americans its only because you dont really know any, and you were denied some kind of visa to come over and live here or you've been deported. You envy us for the wrong reasons, we have many of the same problems. Don't let the POLITICIANS do this to us. We are all of the HUMAN Nationality. . . .we all bleed red, and when we die, we will all either be burned or buried. GET Over Your Foreign Selves !!! >:?(

Clearly, anyone who can type English & have access to the internet can freely express their opinions regarding certain issues on Yahoo! Q&A.

Based on the size of USA, the resources and money Americans possess, as well as our international influences (political, military, economical, cultural, and soceital), often do not match most of world. To certain extend, we Americans are rather stupid, cocky, clumsy, ignorant, conservative, religious, and some what wasteful. Unfortunately, many of us do not see that, and yet- the rest of the world sees it. When they visited the US, the have culture shocks like we would if we go abroad. But I'm aware of those who been abroad had changed their view about their own country and invidual signifcantly, and became very foreign friendly
(culture, visitor, food).

I think the "insults" you're referring to are simply honest opinions from people with different background, different manner, or simply different view on things. Instead of nice comments and a "friendly" attitude, many people tends to be aggressive.

I Hope I answered your questions & explain my opinions clearly.

Well, I'm from Mexico City, U.S.A. is our neightbour, I can say that almost every single mexican dislike the "gringos" as we call them, because they stool a part of our territory in a war 100 years ago (I mean Texas, California and Nuevo México), and they, I mean the goberment makes new lows for avoid inmigrant, but also the police hit in the border eader latin people. I think the U.S.A. have a story to take everything they wants, for a money interest for exemple, Alaska, Hawai, Puerto Rico o Costa Rica (I'don't remember), and now the oil of Irak... we don't know if tomorrow they want to take your country... that's just my opinion, instead I consider they are boring and extremly nationalist, they don't have a real culture, they are a blending of british-irish- I mean they are invaders. But I don't want have a war with them. I do respect them.

Let me start by saying that the majority of Americans I have met in person I have liked. A very good friend of mine married an American girl and now lives in San Diego and she and all the other "Yanks" I've met socially are really great people. I also like and admire the USA, despite it's faults (which are not so very different from those here in the UK).

If I had to pick something about the USA I disliked I would say the cheesy insincerity which much of their business and especially customer-relations seem to be built around. Don't they realise that many Brits regard the phrase "Have a nice day" as American for "f@ck off"? And "missing you already" makes me want to barf.

There is a general stereotyped perception in the UK that Americans are obese, big-headed, poorly-educated red-necks who lack the brain power to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Like most stereotypes, it is far from the whole story but...

Unfortunately I have encountered such people in Yahoo chat rooms from time to time and they do their country a great disservice when they start talking about how great their country is, how wonderful they are and how the USA can save the World etc etc. We Brits just don't relate to that sort of boasting behaviour and tend to resort to insults in response.

I have also encountered the fanatical American evangelist types and quite frankly found them to be brainwashed fools who again (I hope) mis-represent the USA as a whole.

i can understand why people insult america... we are a selfish nation and I am embarrassed by our ignorance of the rest of the world. But not all of us are like that, I am trying to teach my children that there is a whole world out there that have different views, religions, values and traditions than what we have, and that is OK. We dont have to devalue anyone else because they are different than us.

I hope that I am the average american that you talk about--but sometimes, when I talk to different people here and listen to the crap that comes out of their mouth...I worry.

Congratulations on your question which has been asked quite
a few times in the recent month. I was born in Scotland, studied
in Edinburgh and now live in Brazil. There is nothing wrong with
the Americans that deserves insulting in way or manner. The
only exception I will dare mention is President Bush! He seems
to be out of place!

Who died and elected an American president as World President? It seems to me the White House believes it is elected by Americans voters to lead the 'Free World'.

Face reality!

Non-Americans do NOT vote in your elections and hopefully you do not vote in ours.

Once this little truth is finally understood, perhaps the rest of the world might just grow to tolerate you.

I just hope I have not hurt your feelings?

Wow, where are the rest of YOU! Thank you very, very much for your support & kindness. It's rare to get any respect but I'm going to scew it up by bellyachin bout your use of caps in the beginning of the sentence & refereing to yersef wid a small 'I'!
The answer to your question is easy, in my opinion: We are 'big' enough to 'take it' on the chin, without fear of retaliation! "What other people think of us is none of our business!" We have a confidence others call arrogance. We have a spirit others call irreverence. We have a determination others call stuborn. We have an abruptness others call rude. Rude to this US citizen means robust & sturdy! Thanks for the +2, too!
