I find it annoying none of my teachers accept handwritten work. No - I dont find it annoying, I find it unprofessional (i guess I could put it). We came into this world without computers and before them everybody was handwriting stuff. Who made it a rule that everyone must type their homeworks, notes, etc?

Part of a teacher's job is to prepare you for the real world. When you're out there doing a real job, you'll be expected to do everything on the computer too.

Also... if you've ever tried reading the handwritten work of a hundred students over a weekend, you'd have a better appreciation of why teachers want stuff typed. Given how widespread computers are, there's really no reason why you can't type your essays and such.

It makes the matter more presentable and succinct. With more and more students writing english like French or Spanish or any other in -decipherable handwriting, its become a nuisance fpr teachers to correct and examine their homework. This is also a vital component in preparing you before-hand on the way you do job work nowadays, all boardrooms and bosses swear by the mighty computer to put their stuff straight.
I know typing the stuff and then printing it out with slow print commands and other computer flaws will cut back on yr The Sopranos viewing time, but I guess you have to stick with it to be that teachers pet and be high on their 'professionalism barometere"

Thats the way these days, the mantra is Long Live The Computer!! ( and all other gizmos)
Deal with it buddy and take it easy!

I honestly had no idea that kids couldn't "write" things anymore. In a persons life, they will have to read and write letters of the alphabet put together to make words and sentences. The generation of my grandparents (I'm 24) thinks that my generation is completely ignorant because we have to use computer aided calculators to give change back to customers. To not be able to write your thoughts and words in your own handwriting is one of the most stupidest things I've heard of!

Granted, it takes more time to read a student's handwritten work, but teachers have always done that. Every single profession is becoming more and more lazy. I would have thought that this profession was the exception.

In TX, writing samples are now part of the state tests - TAKS. All kids from 4th grade up have to have good writing skills - handwriting skills that is.
There are state standards for computer skills as well. 5th grade students need to type at 20wpm by the end of the year. Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and extensive Word is taught in school.
It's possible your teachers are looking for shortcuts to grading. I'm surprised your school district would allow "required typed" reports - that's discrimination against kids who don't have computers at home.
Talk to the teacher personally - maybe she just needs to be asked to make an exception...

It is unprofessional to submit hand written work. Can you submit work or resumes in the real world that are hand written? No - so teachers should prepare you for the real world by requiring you to type your work. It is more neat, easier to read, easier to grade, and shows that time was put into it.

You have to type stuff because some people write so messy. Teachers can't read it. It is really to make life easier for the teachers.

Really? Where I live it's the opposite.
But typing is easier to read- not only handwriting but spellcheck too. Ask them- everyone has different reasons.
