In an episode of "The Shield" they are interrogating a suspect, a cop enters the room with a telephone book, they cut and elude that he tortured the suspect with the book. I have also seen this in another movie. Does anyone know what they are doing with the book to cause torture??

They beat the suspects with the phone book. It's not supposed to leave any signs of being hit.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

Mr. Grey is the government agent supposedly helping Adam's family. However, it seems that he is responsible for the demise of the family and for Adam's interrogation. Since the end of the book takes place several years in the future, Amy has grown up and moved from her childhood home. If I recall, the person who answered her telephone number when Adam called, said that he'd had that number for five (?) years. So, Amy is just a part of Adam's life. Hope this helps.
