I've heard that drinking water helps because dehydration shrinks something that causes headaches or something. Depends on the source of the headache though.

Coffee may work if your body's used to having a caffeine and you've deprived it of the normal amount that you generally have. If you don't usually have caffeine though this won't help relieve your headache.

I also get wicked headaches when I skip a couple meals... have you eaten lately?

What kind of light is in the space you're working in? Flourescent lighting can cause headaches. (I think full spectrum lighting is supposed to be the better kind.)

Adding stress won't help your headache any. Have you tried a 15 minute walk outside? Get some fresh air maybe.

Close your eyes and take some deep cleansing breaths. (20? 50? Whatever it takes to make you start to relax) Repeat "in through the nose out through the mouth" in your mind. Concentrate on the breathing only.

I also used to try another meditative thing where I'd lay on my bed with one hand down with fingers wide on the mattress. I'd 'put the pain in the mattress' by imagining the pain, stress, whatever coursing through me from wherever it was, to the shoulder, down the arm, and out the hand. I'd repeat the path over and over in my mind. (It worked when I had the chicken pox at age 17 and was trying not to scratch so I started using it for other stuff too.)

Or if you can fit it in put on some soothing music and go lay in the tub with the lights off for awhile with your eyes closed. (That may help if it was the lights that caused it too.)

Good luck & feel better!

First of all don't get stressed about it; it'll get worse!

Hot flannel on the back of your neck and a cold flannel on your forehead.

Get yourself in a dark room with some soothing music for 45 mins.

Then get back to your work. Don't stare at the screen non-stop for more than a few minutes at a time. Look out the window to rest your eyes.

Stay hydrated; the blood vessels in your head will need the water while you work and at anytime!).

If your headache is still there tomorrow, go and ask your pharmacist for some advice.

Get Well Soon :o]

I get migraines. Sometimes when they are really bad I take IB like you did, an hour later I take Tylenol, and you can try something with a little caffiene in it.
May sound silly but heat works for me sometimes. I will lay in the bathtub under really hot water just relaxing with my eyes closed, the heat helps. If that still doesnt work, I use an icepack, close the curtains and just lay in the dark, eyes closed...
Migraines are awful...i would definately not look at the computer screen with a bad headache...
hope you feel better

Hiya

When i was doing my finals i got lots of tension head aches. Cause you are tense and all the muscles scrunch up around your neck and shoulders and trap nerves.
Pain killers weren't working.

What the doctor told me to do which was really effective is every twenty minutes or so is to sit or stand up straight and slowly look down so you can feel the muscles in the back of your neck stretch out.
You could also try some other things to destress.
Circle your arms forward and back..
Wiggle each part of your body from your fingers to your toes.
ITs simple but effective.

Muscle and back pain pills work great. I take 2 extra strength, and I take 2 ibprofin with it if it's really bad. Headache goes away soon sometimes. The muscle and back pain pills make you drowsy though, so you will want to take a nap. They make you feel high too so you can't drive if you take them. I get neck/headaches a lot on the weekend.

You can use the acupressure point between your thumb and first finger. Just hold the flap of skin between your opposite finger and thumb, very tightly, until the pain in your head goes!! I know it sounds implausible, but it does work, and can be used frequently, unIike medication, use it all the time as my medical condition causes headaches on a frequent basis. Good luck

go take a nap in a dark room this will give your body a chance to relax have a drink of warn milk first (unless your lactose intolerant obviously) the milk has soporifics in it that will help you sleep - i use this method for migraines it works, in your case it sounds like a stress headache, a nap will relax you and you will feel calmer when you wake up oh i also normally put a damp piece of cloth over my eyes and forehead

I know it sounds perculiar but my sister in law told me that to drink loads of coffee (if you already have a headache) gets rid of one. It gives you one if you don't but grets rid if you have. Hope you know what I mean!! Or sex apperently.Oh, and my doc says you can take two paracetamol AND two ibuprofen. As long as the ibuprofen doesn't contain any more paracetamol in. The pain is attacked from two different ways or something. Good luck!
