It is great that you are taking folic acid daily. It will help prevent birth defects and miscarriages once you get pregnant!

On average 60 to 80 percent of couples who are trying to conceive (TTC) get pregnant within 12 months, so relax! You are just getting started. Here are some other pointers if you are TTC:

Use ovulation test strips (buy them at any drug store or online) to tell just when I was most fertile during the month. It is remarkable difficult to get pregnant if you are having sex at the wrong time of the month! You just pee in a cup and dip the stip in the cup and it will tell you when you are ovulating.

Take prenatal vitamins daily, eat LOADS of fresh fruit & veggies & OJ every day!

Of course, you and your partner should avoid all alcohol, over-the-counter medications, and medications of any kind (unless you have your doctor's approval). Most are bad for the baby and cause birth defects.

Both of you should get plenty of rest (8 hours per night).

I also read that 30 to 60 minutes of brisk walking every day (not running) or other low-impact moderate excercise can really boost your fertility.

Also, you and your spouse should cut out ALL caffiene (including decaf coffee) and chocolate because I read it can cut fertility of men and women by up to 50 percent, according to a governmen't Web site.

In addition, make sure your man wears only boxers, not briefs, and that he avoids hot tubs and hot baths. Higher temperatures kills sperm.

The research I did also says that you should aim for ideal weight because being overweight (or significantly underweight) can impair your fertility.

After sex, raise up your knees for 20 to 30 minutes so that the sperm don't leak out. Try to stay in bed the rest of the night.

Good luck! and don't stress about it, it will happen.

All women of childbearing age should take Folic Acid even if they are not trying to conceive. It helps to prevent spinal problems in babies. However it will not help you get pregnant.

Keep taking the folic acid and make sure you continue during the pregnancy and after.

Good luck.

No, folic acid in the usually prescribed doses should not be harmful. So as long as you are trying to get pregnant, keep taking it. The baby really needs this to help prevent spinal defects (also called neural tube defects). This is especially true of women with seizure disorders taking antiepileptic medications who need extra folic acid.

Folic acid does not help you get pregnant, it helps prevent a specfic birth defect when you do get preggo. And it is not harmful in normal amounts, in fact it is a very vital part of your body's needs. Folic acid has even been shown to help prevent heart disease in deficient men. It is a needed vitamin just like C, A or any other vitamin, pregnant or not.

It's actually very possible for a woman to ovulate twice in one month with both cycles having the possability of becoming pregnant. Even if you experience light spotting you could still be pregnant as well, since this will not always stop once you become pregnant. In fact some women maintain their peiods throughout their pregnancies. If I were you I would wait at least 1 month from your second cycle and take a home pregnancy test and act as if pregnant until that point so you don't consume or do anything that may harm a baby.

You can take folic acid as long as you want - it is actually highly recommended that women who may become pregnant and women who become pregnant take folic acid. It is proven to help reduce the risk of some neural tube defects.

Folic Acid is to prevent birth defects, not help with getting pregnant. Hope this article helps

No, as a matter of fact, the recommendation is now that all women take a folic acid supplement if they are childbearing age. In order to prevent neural tube defects, it should be taken before conception, as well.

I read an article in American baby (i think) that said women who take folic acid before they conceive and during their first trimester lower the risk of birth defects like clefts, and spina bifida by 50-70%.. So believe me there is no harm in taking it early, and anyway there's plenty of folic acid in just cereal.. Don't fret you'll get pregnant soon enough, just hang in there.

Folic Acid is good to take before becoming pregnant. It does not help you get pregnant-it is good for the baby in preventing spina bifida which is a very serious birth defect.
