Heh, thanx everybody.. needed to get the mail out and didnt have a stamp for the gas bill, and the last time I bought a stamp they were 33 cents so I thought I would check.

Letters are stamped according to their weight. The most common stamp in America is probably the 39 cent. This will mail a letter up to 1 ounce (28 grams). Then there is additional postage for extra weight. Post Cards like people send on vacation get a special post card rate. I not remember, I think it is 32 cents, but, not sure.

You can get stamps for quite a few amounts - anywhere from 1 cent to 15 dollars.

Perhaps a better question would have been "How much does it cost to mail a first class letter/post card/ whatever?"
