We all eventually become our own parents!!! Everytime you catch yourself saying music today is rubbish or I dont get it etc it just means you're getting older. Each year you will be drawn to bands or tunes that are nostalgic to you ( without you being aware) and you will become more distanced from more and more current music. I know I have children of differing ages and have become my own father!!!!

Twaddle. Last year's Oasis album was only good in the sense of 'not as rubbish as any of the previous three'. the Coldplay album was supposed to be a major step forward for the band (so why did it sound exactly the same as the last one????). U2s album was good enough, Hard Fi are dullness personified and the Green Day album was released in 2004 - they subsequently toured a show that was essentially just the American Idiot album until everyone got roundly bored of it. Yes 2005 produced Coles Corner by Richard Hawley, so sadly pipped at the post for the Mercury and a string of brilliant shows by the Go Team and some Pixies live gigs. But 2005 had no activity at all from Radiohead - 2006 has brought a string of top shows from them, and a solo album from Thom Yorke. Muse have released one of the best albums of the last 10 years in 2006, and a new waxing from beck is on the cards before the end of the year. Add in a new Killers album and the best Primal Scream effort for a long long time and 2006 is at least as good as 2005. Oh, and the Arctic Monkeys are rubbish.....

Even though I was in a group which had some chart success in the 80's, I still love some of the groups that are out there. Greenday are good however I'm not to stuck on Arctic Monkeys.

so far I agree half and half I think 2004 was a great year for music. We have had some amazing new bands this year, some amazing gigs and tours, festivals and new highly anticipated albums from Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers. etc. and some bloody brilliant singles like Rooftops by lostprophets and naive by the kooks the list goes on. I think we're doing well for music '06 so far It will improve to all those who thinks it sucks!

It's true there hasn't been anyone as stand out as the Arctic monkeys or Hard fi but then i'm livin in USA now, and its not as interesting to me as the UK music scene i grew up with, so i kind of grab for as much as i can. The feeling are pretty cool and i'm a fan of corrinne bailey rae too.

primal scream's album was good and the arctic monkeys' wasn't? no. the new scream album could have been called give up but don't give out II. it was crap. you can tell what it sounds like just from looking at the stupid track listing....muse have released another pretentious one-note album......pearl jam have released their worst album of their career, becoming a political band, which isn't what they are; and the red hot chilis have become embarrassing to listen to......however, i've enjoyed the arctic monkeys album, the new scritti politti (i'm a long time fan), j dilla's albums, gnarls barkley's and christina aguilera's soulful efforts, ghostface killah's return, agalloch's under-the-radar album, the lily allen record, and sure, the kooks were a little kooky but it's a nice pop record. the killers album looks nice too; and 2pac is about to have another album released

I have been pleased with the music I have purchased this year, but then I haven't just accepted what the mass media says is good and have made the effort to search out good music. such as The Scallions
