Go and BUY a CD Rom drive. I recommend that you RUN to STAPLES and get one. You might consider getting a modestly priced CD Burner. I would recommend getting their SONY brand, since I have installed several of these with great luck. It's about $60.
You can buy a plain CD Rom drive for about $40.
You may have to change the BIOS settings of your destop to get it to boot from the CD ROM drive.
If you don't have 256MB of RAM or more on this desktop, then don't install Windows XP. It will be way too slow. Consider installing the system software that CAME with that desktop.

Assuming Windows XP....
You do not need BOTH a CDrom and floppy. You only need a CD rom drive to install XP. Just put the CD into the CD drive and boot up. It will do the rest. The install should start automatically from the CD. No floppy is needed.

I would think CDROM might just be 'faster'.
Floppy disk - Troublesome, many diskettes to load to get the same amount of storage as that of a CDRom.
Flash disk is quite convenient but depends on what is the size of your flash disk (whether it's big enough to contain all the files for th installation)
So, I would still choose to install via CD...

Use your Laptop, make your Flash drive bootable, copy Windows Installer files to Flash drive from CD.
Then boot your PC from Flash drive & install Windows from Installer files.
Please note this is possible if yourBIOS support boot from Flash drive.
In the other hand, if you have network between PC & Laptop, then first use CDrom of Laptop & copy Windows installer files to PC, then run installation from copied file in PC.

Older windows can be installed by moving the cab files over a serial or parallel port. The software to do this is called file maven.
Havent tried this with XP. Please be specific on what windows you are trying to install.
If you have multiple partitions on your HD this also gives you more options.

there is not any dos proper ingredient to do is temp hook a cdrom to it and use it or take the not straightforward stress out and placed it in different laptop set up there and placed it back in this laptop. it verify the bios and word in case you should use a usb port at a boot stress.
