If you're a Creationist, it was the chicken. If you are an Evolutionist, it was the egg.
According to Darwin, chickens didn't come from organic matter, they came from the precursor species that was similar to the chicken. So the mutation had to take place in the egg.

nice question , but a simple answer . its the chicken which came first . wanna explaination? its because biologically, during evolution, the species were generated from organic matter and not from eggs!!! the same applies to the Hen too!!!!
