Simply put, whenever an object is raised to a higher position, it gains potential energy. The heavier the object, the more potential energy is gained.
As you probably know, you cannot create nor destroy energy.
Since the 10 adults certainly weigh more than the 10 children, they will have gained more potential energy than the children when they reach the top floor - and this extra potential energy for the adults must come from the elevator - and the elevator has to add this extra potential energy to the adults by working just a little harder to lift the heavier load.

Well now Enufwork has already given my answer lol. Work = FxD, So the
average Adult weighs in at something like 160# as an average. Child would be at least half of that weight. The weight relates to how much force has to be exerted to move it. Take it one step further and you have Power= F X D X time.
But the power has nothing to do with the work, it just tell you how fast you can do the same work.

Work is force x distance. If you increase the weight of passengers, then the force to move them is greater, while the distance is the same. The energy expended by the elevator may be the same because of the way it is designed (may be independent of the load), but the work performed is greater with the group of adults.

work is defined by how much energy is expended over a period of time. In this case the elevator is moving more weight over the same time period. More weight = more work.
