It turns out that it was a small 1" rubber hose on one of the vacuum pipe connectors that had split. I had previously taken the car to a Vauxhall dealership who plugged the car into thier computer and told me that they had no idea what the problem was. They told me they would have to spend some time trying to trave the fault at £40 an hour labour charge. I took the car toa small garage who diagnosed the problem without even having to lift the bonnet, based on what I had told him. He charged me £10. He said that it was one of the most common faults with these cars. That said, I am now of the opinion that the Vauxhall dealer was aware of the problem and was holding out to relieve me of as much cash as possible. BE WARY OF MAIN DEALERS!!!!!

Suggest youtake your car to a garage. Looks like a problem with your engine management system, but it should be no problem for them to diagnose and rectify as they just plug a computer into the car to solve problems like that.

if it is flashing and will not start it is to do with the immobiliser.did the key come apart recently? if so the chip may have fallen out and you will need to get it to a dealer to get a new chip programmed in. if it happens while driving then it needs to be brought to a garage that can do a fault diagnosis - not necessarily a dealer to get it checked out.

Cos your car is busted. Head to your nearest car manufacturers main dealership and prepare to lose your anal virginity cos thats how much they charge these days!

(In their defence, at least they do the job properly, no names mentioned, cough cough, kwik fit.)

Usually means one of the engine sensors on your car has detected a problem.

Take if for diagnostics and they will be able to tell you the exact problem.

Thats what happened on my vectra anyway.
