the version between alcohol and mercury in a thermometer is their density. considering that mercury and alcohol have diverse densities, at diverse stages of rigidity their heights exchange at diverse expenses. while you're questioning rigidity = density x gravity x top so which you would be able to resolve for the top that mercury and alcohol would be at at diverse pressures. (And rigidity ameliorations with temperature)
