An Internet Cookie is text that is stored on your hard drive. It is stored there by the Web Site itself. This text might be in the form of an ID value so that when you visit that website again their server can retrieve information that you previous had entered from that ID value. Ever notice when you go back to Amazon it says "Welcome Back" with your name included, yet you haven't signed into your account yet. Website can only pick up their cookies from your machine and you have control over whether you want this process to happen. You set your machine to not accept cookies or warn you every time a cookie is set. It is important to note that cookies are only text and not programs. They can not damage your machine. The danger of cookies is that some cookies are made to track your movements across multiple sites. This way companies can gather a lot more personal information about you and target you more specifically.
