Squier is Fender's second brand. The best Fenders are made in the U.S.although some are made in Japan or Mexico. Don't get a Squier, they have poor microphones, the wood isn't as good, it's not the same playing experience. I highly recommend, if you can, to get an American Fender. It is well worth the money. Basically all the materials put in the Squier are less quality than those put into a Fender. Go for the American Fender, you won't regret it.

It's kind of like "Why is a Toyota so much cheaper than a Lexus?" Same company - but the quality level is vastly different in the two brands. If you can't tell the difference, save your money and buy the Squire.

you just answered your own question. american labor is more expensive. the guitars produced here use higher quality materials and are made in less quantities than foreign mass produced modes.
(they also make fender labeled guitars in other countries as well)
