First of all congratulations. You plan the reception like you would if you had a full wedding. Now you need to decide if it's going to be formal or non formal. If non formal, you can go with the typical party foods/finger foods or you can go with a sit down meal or if there's certain foods that you and hubby like, you can serve that as well. And also you can have the traditional wedding cake even if its a casual affair. You can enlist families and friends to help you with the details after you decide on formal, casual or come as you are. Good luck.

There are wedding planning websites with this...I'll look them up for you if ya want..

As for food. I know that people who can afford have catering but what we do in our family since we's poor, is we have family members/friends all make something and bring it in. Enough for a lot of people.

If that doesn't sound good to you. You can I think look in the phone book under catering and pick a palce you think would be good.

All the wedding receptions I've been to have all been right after a wedding so there was always a wedding cake.

As for gifts that people bring, usually it was always something for the newlyweds home. Like a set of pots of cooking and stuff like that. My cousin had a wedding registry thing when she got married. You put down what items you and your hubby need/want how much etc..

Activities - dancing? thats always a big one there. There was always the throwing of the boquet and the garder thing but I dunno if ya'll could/should do that since the actual marriage was 2 months ago...but if you want to, its your reception...

Another thing that I've seen at weddings is a person carrying a giant container thing having people put money in it for the newlyweds...

Well, I would keep it simple. Not too stuffy and formal, wear a nice simple dress (white if you want), serve something like a pasta dish or chicken (something all your guests will like), and you have to have a cake! and a wedding reception is a celebration of your committment to each other, it's a party, so you would play music, eat, dance, mingle, cut the cake, and either leave to go on your honeymoon, or party the rest of the night away!

What is your basic reason for having a reception - to get gifts? If it is, then you are going to have to have a party where people expect to be fed at the very least.

If gifts aren't your main reason, then throw a party but just put on the invitations that you were married and would like to have a celebration - please come!

U can have a reception any time, and its ur reception u can do whatever u'd like.. its all about u and ur husband.. u can do something traditional or non traditional.. its all about celebrating the love u both have for each other with ur family and friends, and as far as gifts just depends, could be house hold things, or could be money.. but make it what u want it to be.. its YOUR party..

you,re basically having a party so if you are down to earth and jolly just tell people to grab something small and bring themselves, food wise, its what you and yours like,,why have crab when everyone wants cheese rolls, its about you and your new hubby so keep it about that,,if you are more traditional you want invitations, catering,a dress, shoes,a huge gift table,a stage person to entertain you all and lots of glasses and champagne, something for the kids and the inlaws,,you are meant to have a great time so dont get lost in the details if you can help it,just have a good time and so will your loved ones.

since its a weddiing reception, dress would be nice, treat it like its a normal reception, like right after you get married and plan according.
