Marketing, marketing, marketing...be sure to choose your audience...the level of which will buy at your prices and subject matter. Find out what they read, where they go, their interests in art. If your work does't fit, they are not your target. If so, get into their faces any way you can, from a streetside show to direct mail of postcards to their homes. Make friends with a gallery owner who appreciates your work and ask how they market their art. Ask an art store owner if you pay for the refreshment and postcard mailings, if he'll allow you to show at this store. Lots of Internet ways to market, from web site to blogs. good luck

Talk to hotels, get them to sponsor you a little area near reception, so that you can put up your displays for a couple of days. You can work out some commission with them if the paintings are sold.
I like to read or look at some visual art while I was waiting for my queue number to be called, so these are the areas you can try to target at.
I have heard of friends who posted their paintings on the net, and managed to sell them too.
