Children will pattern themselves after their parents for good or bad. If you are not the best role model or a hypocrite, they know. If you stand by time tested values, the children will be better for it.

Change in thought is one thing. Deviating from time tested values can be dangerous. Case in point, "Rap."

As an example, gangsta rap doesn't elevate anyone. If those two words, "N---a" and "M-----f----r", were removed from the English (term used lightly in this area) lexicon, a performer would have to come up with actual lyrics. And, I don't buy the "inner-city" crud.

Are there disadvantaged to be found there? Absolutely. Are there those who have been left behind? Of course. But the lack of positive image in this garbage does nothing to influence one to work a way out of the box. It glorifies (not all of it) those things that makes the inner-city such a tough environment.

Is not a change in thinking supposed to bring about a change in circumstance? I think so. The inner-city youth are treading in shark infested waters, and all this stuff does is throw them a pail of chum rather than a life-line.

And as a parent who has raised three children to adulthood, I can assure you no parent wants their child to be like them at a point in time, at some time, we want better for our children all of the time.

Change is necessary, but when departing from the status quo, it needs to do so in a forward looking direction. A lot of the change I see now is not. I could list more, but it's late.

change in thought is always good in a healthy society it promotes understanding between peoples as to the second part it's not the parents that don't understand it's the kids and if you really look at society the values that now adays children attain are ignorance, promiscuity, and violence is that really what you would desire for your children?
