I've been really sick the past couple days and I was wondering if I could take more than the recommended dose for the Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom Severe. On the box it says 2 tablets every 4 hours for adults, but that didn't really take care of all my symptoms yesterday. I am a 23 year old male and 6'1" 200lbs with no outstanding medical conditions.

The active ingredients of the medicine are as follows:
Acetaminophen-325mg
Dextromethorphan HBr-10mg
Guaifenesin-200mg
Phenylephrine HCI-5mg

No. If they said 2 take 2. Taking three is overdosing. Think of it this way. If the dosage is two twice daily, that's 4/day, 20/week, 80/month. Now if you were taking 3 that would be 6/day, 30/week, 120/month. Would you take 40 extra pills for the month? You might be dead before that.

The FDA puts on the box the recommended dose for a reason. You may have a reaction if you take more than the recommended dose. Some medications take time to react to your body. Some meds take 2-3 days. While some take 4 weeks. In your case though it might just be a couple days before you see any changes. I took this medication earlier this year and I had an allergic reaction to it. Take the recommended dose every 4 hours and if things don't start to relieve I would call your family doctor and see if it is just a cold, sinuses, allergies, etc.... Also Tylenol contain Acetaminophen which is a fever reducer and a pain reliever. Large quanities of acetaminophen can cause liver damage and/or disease. Be careful!

If the 2 aren't working for you--adding a third pill is not going to work any better. Try another medication instead. Ask the pharmacist at the drug store to make a recommendation for you.

Call a local pharmacist, and ask the actual pharmacist whether or not it is ok. It would take less time calling them, than waiting on here....plus they go through 3+ years of extra schooling to answer questions like this.
Hope you feel better.

Acetamophine damages the liver in large doses. Taken several times a day you run a risk of damage and jaundice.

Ah you are a big boy and the little pill (one more as usual dose) don't throw you over. Just don't take the whole bottle at once!

Why don't you just take the whole bottle, that way we don't have to listen to your tom-fullery questions! You could possibly have AIDS from all the butt lovin, so I would recommend that when you take the whole bottle you insert it rectally.
