I think it's because, they don't feel like they are a 'girlie girl'. They don't feel the need to fall into that 'I'm so pretty thing'. They wear what is comfortable and it is the style that they choose to express who they are. It's not about looking like a man but being themselves and doing their own thing. And suddenly they are butch cause they don't fit the profile of a girl. It is what it is.

That's because you don't know enough, most of the ones i know are very feminine. And yes because they like to be the man in the relationship and there some what like a man and just want to dress comfortable and they don't like to dress up.
