You are too young to have a b/f and be committed. You have all the time in the world to make friends with both sexes, and enjoy yourself with your group of friends.
By committing yourself to one b/f, you are tying yourself without giving yourself a chance to live the life of a teenager, free to chose your friends. Your circle of friends must be widened first at this stage. Then you will have more opportunities to learn about individuals, their likes, dislikes, behaviour and values. You will have a choice to pick the one who suits your needs best, for your partner.
Only after this experience, can you be ready to commit to a long term relationship. Otherwise your relationships will be short ones.

You should never have a "boyfriend" if you don't feel like having one ... that's just silly.

You ARE at the age where many girls start dating ... but just hang with your friends if that's what feels right. There's no point in pushing yourself into something like that just because society seems to think "it's time."
