You think like me a lot! I think its useless to pay for TV licence I so hope they scrap it in the future so bloodly pointless taking people's hard working money just because they have a TV. There are so many pointless bills to pay and the prices keep rising, how can we cope?!

I take it that you are in the UK. We in the states don't pay that extra tax (or have those guys coming around like Big Brother in their vans checking whether or not you've got a TV without a license).
I am opposed to the tax because the free market is getting us the type of programming we want. I could understand a small tax to play something like CSPAN (it's a channel that just shows government proceedings with no commercials). That opens up the inner workings of government but probably would not get advertising to make it work. That's a good use of tax payer money.
But although there are some good British shows, you don't need a tax to get them made. Sky does quite well without tax money and it has programming for adults and kids, entertaining and educational.
I know Britain is more socialistic than the US, but they probably should reconsider this one. Unless they just like the easy money it makes for the government.
And if that tax goes away, it will show up somewhere else.

It's not just because of the electricity! You need more than electricity to produce a program. But I agree. We should have the option to only watch itv or channel 4 if we want to. TV's could be made that don't get any BBC channels. It's only because the BBC don't have adverts that we have to pay.

yes totaly agree, why the hell should you have to pay a tv license just because of the bbc.it is the richest media in the world.if they scrapped it none of that money would go a miss, alls the money they get from that is putting extra 0s on there bank ballence.what people of britain should do is refuse to pay it and have a big protest outside downing street.then the bbc will soon get the picture.

I think its just another way for the governemet to see what everyone is doing all the time. After reading 1984 I realise the way the world is soon they will be watching us through telescreens. Every movement we make will be observed and written down on databases. It's just a way for the government to make us pay no money.

Exactly why should we have to pay the BBC so the bigwigs can have huge pay rises. BBC is pretty rubbish any way. I think everyone in Britain should stop paying and then see what they would do. They can't jail everyone. Let's start a TV Licence no pay campaign.

Are you referring to the TV licensing fee on your cable bill? There isn't seriously another country where people have to buy TV licenses in the same way you'd buy a fishing license, is there?

BBC hide behind the license fee. They should rely on advertising the same as all of the other channels.
BBC cost me the most money while supplying me with the least entertainment.

I think that Britain must be the only European country who have to pay for a license.

The licence pays for the BBC, this means you dont have to sit through adverts on BBC channels. Its not like its a lot of money anyway.
And to the American who thinks its a way to inhibit free speech may I just say, what are you on about? Thats not what its for, ever heard of the FCC? You cant even fart on American TV.
