Jeter has over 30 steals, will get 100 rbi and 100 runs and will finish 1 or 2 in the league in avg. You dont need to hit a ton of homers and rbi to be the MVP...and just because Ortiz hit a couple of moonshot walkoff bombs back in May doesnt mean he is an mvp.

Jeter for President......I am a big Jeter fan -- not because of his damn good looks but because his respect and love for the game. He is a die hard player and I think he rocks.....If you ever get the chance to see Beyond the Glory on Jeter........its the best story I have ever seen on a player.....awesome dude. IF anyone knows him tell him I love him, k ? and I would marry him and sign a pre nup....haha.

The other candidates are doing a great job of falling out of it.

Ortiz and Dye thanks to the fact that it's looking like neither will make the playoffs.

Morneau is hurt by the performances of Mauer and Johan Santana in a way... because you can't be the MVP if you're not the MVP of your own team... and Morneau isn't clearly the most important guy on the Twins.

Jeter might win it by default.

Of course. He is the obvious pick...

BA.
Jeter - .346
Ortiz - .288

Stolen Bases
Jeter - 29
Ortiz -1

Doubles
Jeter - 36
Ortiz - 26

Singles
Jeter - 192
Ortiz - 145

Strikeouts
Jeter - 91 ( 555 at bats)
Ortiz - 105 ( 503 at bats) it seems Ortiz strikes out more in less at bats

OBP
Jeter - .419
Ortiz - .402

plus Jeter is playing gold glove baseball in shortstop. Ortiz, well he is the best benchwarmer. He only plays about 15 minutes of baseball. while Jeter plays 2 hours of baseball.

Yes, why? Point blank Jeter has been the best player for years, always contending for the MVP. And Ortiz "tried" to contend for two years???? Please, Ortiz may have more RBI, and Homers, but he can't beat, ever, Jeter's Avg. and stolen bases. Ortiz isn't even going to the playoffs anyways. :)
