I don't necessarily care for most hip hop. It seems that people don't actually sing to the music, but rather speak rhythmically. I can understand how some people like it, though. A lot of hip hop has a great beat.

I think both Hip Hop and Rap are essentially senseless, repetitive, and terribly boring. I don't even classify either as music.
There is no melody to hum along with, no pleasent rythm, no meaningful lyrics, and most of all the negative gangsta/ghetto image it promotes.
Essentially, you can take one hard, loud beat and "sing" the lyrics to every Hip Hop or Rap song to it. Basically, all that changes from attempt to attempt (I won't call them songs) is the lyrics.
Yes I'm an older gentlemen and Hip Hop and Rap simply doesn't make any sense to me.
One of the things I really wonder about is:
What in hell are you kids going to have to remember when you are in your 50's or 60's? Do you really think you'll be doing your favorite hobby and humming/singing a Hip Hop or Rap song from your school days?
I think not.

I like to listen to something that actually resembles music, unlike hip-hop.

I like hip-hop because it is lighthearted, and can help relieve your mood. It (some of it!) makes you want to dance, which is good exercise, and one of the best stress solutions. Besides, its much better than country!!!
