It really depends about what the website is about in addition to the traffic. Sometimes, there can be a large amount of traffic, but very few click throughs on the advertising on the website. If advertising is used, the key is to find advertising that matches the website content.

With the amount of money some Blog's make out of pure advertising I would say you need high traffic to a site.
