Snakes are not native to Hawaii and we work very hard to keep them out through inspections.
We try to keep all kinds of invasive species out including plants. If Hawaii were to be overrun with something like Kudzu we would be in serious trouble.
Many locals actively hike out into the forests and dig up and destroy invasive species and weeds.
Guam on the other hand is overrun with snakes and they have decimated their native bird population and other native species into extinction. It's an ecological disaster for them.
We don't have rabies either. We quarentine all animals for quite a while to avoid it.
No tropical birds like parrots and no monkeys.

Have you confused it with Ireland? There aren't any there because St Patrick drove them all out. (Really because they didnt get across the land bridge before the last Ice Age ended). You are right that there aren't any NATIVE snakes, but......
The blind snake is in Hawaii. It was introduced accidentally.

Welllll, for centuries, that was correct, because there was no way for them to migrate to an island. (Water snakes don't like land) Of course, since the invention of the airliner, the rules have changed. Now snakes can hitch a ride any time they want, in cargo containers.

because its an island born of volcanos over millions of years. every living thing there had to migrate from somewhere else, and no snakes ever made the journey--seeds blew in on tradewinds... birds flew there... not sure how mammals got there
