If you're referring to the Holy Wars, caused by self-righteous Christians. Or the stuff that is going on in the Middle East caused by Muslims, and the greedy kill-happy Bush... Or the Salem Witch trials, reinforced by Christians... You do have a good point. You're very idealistic. Unfortunately, it wasn't really well thought out.
Doing that would violate rights and freedoms. I think that students should be able to sing any type of song they want be it by Marilyn Manson or an old church/temple hymn. However; I do not believe teachers have the right to select religious songs for children to sing just as I would be angry if my child returned from school singing "Like a Virgin" by Madonna, if I found out it was taught by a teacher.
I believe that religion has no place in public in regards to be referred to specifically. Though X-Mass is very rude. The word is Christmas. We don't refer to X-Kahn or Chinese X-Year.
As for people like my grade seven and eight English teacher who talked about the Christian god everyday and forced us to pray at the beginning of every class... She should have been fired. It was the 1990s! It made me very uncomfortable as I am not a Christian nor was I at that time. I was suspended at the start of the year for refusing to pray. She just told the principal I wasn't co-operating. It wasn't true I didn't believe in what she did. I explained it to them and they didn't listen. After that I yawned loudly each time she would start up and stared at the floor thinking what a know-it-all she was.
And when I signed up for Air Cadets they asked my religion on the paper. When I turned the paper in with the religion box blank they hauled me in the office and tried to force me to say "Baptist" as that was the main religion of the community.
So all in all I think religion is mainly pressing your opinions on other people. I would never follow a "Holy" book as they are all written by man and therefore have room for flaws.
Believing "God" will save you is just a way to believe in yourself without realising it. It is the belief that you are important enough that some all-powerful being cares enough to keep watch over you. Taking that from people would further contribute to the dilapidation of the human race.

It is beliefs or differences in beliefs that is the problem. The belief that capitalism is right and communism is wrong, had nothing to do with religion; but brought us close to nuclear mutally assured destruction (MAD) during the cold war.
The United Nations works on resolutions that all Nations can agree on; mutual beliefs. Support their work and maybe we can stop wars in the future. Giving the UN control of the Internet - rather than the US defence department would be a good start. more power to the UN to fine governments, impose embargo's, restrict cartels and have a multi national force at it's disposal permanently would be a step in the right direction.

it's not religion itself that causes war, pain, and suffering, it's the members of religion believing they are the right ones and also believing everyone else is wrong, ie going to hell etc. combined with the fact that no one wants to live in a world full of (even just perceived) sinners, these violences are the result of people believing they are doing the right thing. No religion in the world is exempt from this, even the Christians had their crusades, the catholic church had the Inquisition, etc. so trying to ban religion would only be feeding the fire.

Wars vs Religion .. as far as I am concerned people will go to war no matter what.
taking away religion will not change anything, it is a means to an end ... if you want to invade a country you can use their opposing religion as a reason to do it.
take religion away and you can say they are shorter than you or have different coloured skin, anything .. people have an inbuilt need as hunter gatherers to always want more.
I am a non practicing catholic and have no problems with any others colour or creed , thought I would mention that befoore I get beaten up over religion etc.

No, it is time to respect ALL beliefs.
We cannot shove our issues on this down other peope's throats, after all religion keeps some of us in our place, and everyone has a right to belief, but not to `shove it down my throat`.
Ban the extremist nuts and from religion being taught in schools, while respecting all. BUT am mad as hell that british children are not being allowed to do things like sing Christmas carols which are holy, and so forth.
Steaming thinking about it PC gone bleeding mad as usual!

You cannot ban something you have no control of. The Lord made the earth and everything on and in it.Sin came into the world and that is where the wars and destruction came from. He gives us free will and we messed up starting with Adam and Eve.

Religion does not cause wars people do. In communist China Christians have to meet in secret and in North Korea Christians are tortured . In fact more people died under Stalin then under Hitler Many of them Christians. Since the rise of secularism with have more violent crime , Teen pregnancies, STD,S and Family breakdown .

Religion is not the cause of war. Hatred and ignorance are.
Besides, if you can ban my religion because you don't understand it, what can I ban you from? Here's an idea: you leave my freedoms alone, and I'll leave yours alone. Start trying to take my freedoms, and YOU will be the one starting a war.

No it's time to prevent minority interest groups taking control of our government under the cover of adulterated 'democracy'
If the US constitution had not been amended to the extent that it has - many of the wars involving the USA in the last century would never have happened.

Well they really are redundant institutions as I see along with Monarchy, Government and banking.
I do think Religion has one final purpose.
I think if Christian, Jew and Muslin joined together they could topple the redundant institutions with one final push at the powerful zionists who run the US
