Start a SAVINGS ACCOUNT in her name & everytime you get the urge to buy her a present, deposit the money into the account & present her with the deposit slip inside of a card or just in an envelope. She will appreciate the fact that you can show her that you CAN be as frugal as she is! You are a lucky man to have a woman who KNOWS the value of a dollar! Don't shower her with useless & unwanted gifts.

I've got two ideas for you.
1) Suprise her with a very nice home-cooked dinner. There's nothing like coming home expecting to have to pick up and make dinner and being suprised with a nice clean home and dinner on the table. I know I always love it! It makes me feel very appreciated and special. :)
2) You could make a donation to a charity for her. Or maybe there is a charity function coming up that you could support? A dinner, an auction, something like that? If you did that, you'd be both providing a nice suprise for her (especially if you get to go out and do something together as part of it) and showing that you are supportive of her desire to help others. (I'm assuming from your comment about your wife having seen real poverty and finding everything to be a waste of money that she'd like to make a positive difference.)
Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it'll go off very well. It's awful sweet of you to make the gesture. Good luck!!

This one is great, it may cost at the most five dollars. Get some paper white or colours-but plain . Cut it into pieces about the size of a dollar bill. Glue or staple (staple works best) about 10 -more or less together. On each piece of paper --give her what a woman wants Heres a suggested list --by the way this is a coupon book for her. Ok-This coupon is good for one free back massage-foot massage-free kiss-free day of no kids. You get the picture? Decorate it up with stickers. This easy cheap and much needed by most women.

The cost doesn't matter. It's the thought that counts. I'm the same as your wife flowers I think what I'd have bought with the money. If she like a particular bar of chocolate or ice cream buy it on way home it shows you know what she likes. Or if she's always saying she must buy a new belt, or such like, buy her one. It'll show you listen to her. There the things that do it for me, not extravagant presents. Good luck. Marks out of ten for effort!

Why not buy her something like a tree in a new forest for conservation or such like. There are many useful projects around which may appeal to her. She'll be pleased to know that her gift is helpful and responsible and not a waste of money as it will last the test of time.

If my boyfriend were going to buy me something for about £50 I would want a decent ironing board - sorry thats not very romantic. How about undies - most ladies wear these every day and they can be sexy as well as practical. If you're scared of getting the wrong thing, take your favourite bra from her underwear draw with you (make sure it's one that still fits and has the label with the size in and don't forget to get the right size, type and style nickers too).

What you need to do is to get hold of a large clean cardboard box from your local shop. The night before her birthday, wait for your wife to go to sleep first, you then quietly put the box at the bottom of the bed, wrapped in birthday wrap except the top. The idea then is to wake up before her and to quietly get into the box(with a bow tied around your head-this is optional). When your wife wakes, she opens the box. A good surprise and as cheap as it gets: and what more could she want but you.

Edited to say- if my husband brought me something for 50 pounds I would be so happy. For my birthday, I got a frigging tin of beer!! Yea beer!! 1 pound. And I'm just an occasional beer drinker . And don't u dare say it's the thought that counts!!!

I bought my mum a small basket (£3.99 from Morisons) and I filled it with all her favourite things from a teddy that she had when she was a kid that I retrived from my gran to her favourite book and favourite foods and soaps.
It was very personal.
It was my dads 40th last year and I made him a portfolio of his past. I searched the internet for photos of places he lived and went to school that looked different to how they look now. I even found a picture of his house and he was standing outside it on the web!
I know that I would love a gift that my partner had really thought about and put effort into rather than a bottle of perfume that he got his sister to buy for me.
