Here on the water, we have Boat lifts to get the boats out of the water when not in use. They are motorized by a small motor with pulley systems. They are strong enough to lift a two ton boat so I always thought they could certainly make an elevator, as long as your cables, pulleys and frame were strong enough. Go on lie and look up boat lifts, then look for the specs for their motors (They are only about one cubic foot in size.

Are you in the trade? I don't think a home elevator is something you just part together from local stores. I've been a carpenter for 20 years, and I would strongly suggest you talk to the local code enforcement officer before you get going on this. Are you sure you don't mean a dumb waiter? If I needed one in my own home, I would call an elevator company....Otis is one, and hire them to do it.

You got to know something about elevators, or you can have a death trap in your house.Leave this job to a pro.
