My wife got a cat. I got at the same time itchy eyes and nose. Is it a cold or am I allergic to the cat? If it is the cat how other than getting rid of the cat do I combat cat allergies?

Sounds like allegies...you have two options....you can get Meds for it or get rid of the kittie....I would say try Meds first...then see if you have to go to the second... Good luck. Life a itch...;P

It could be either or. If you do believe it is the cat I would be check by an allergist or your doctor. If you are allergic they can prescribe medication that will help deal with the allergies. If you want to try like Benadryl or some other over the counter medication to see if that helps you should if your itchy eyes and nose get better than maybe it is the cat, but I would still check with a doctor to see if you are allergic.

The following is not medical advice:
Like with many things, time will tell. Give it a week. See if your symptoms get stronger when the cat is near. An allergy is not just a nuisance, it can give you a respiratory infection if it remains too long. If your symptoms worsen then you may want to see your doctor and if it is an allergy you would most likely need to get rid of the cat and then thoroughly clean the house of all cat hair and cat items.

Do your eyes get itchy just when you are around the cat, or everywhere you go? If it's just when you are near the cat, it most likely means that you ae allergic to cats. There is a medication you can take to help you to cope with the allergy. Ask you doctor. I know of a woman who worked in a veterinarian's office, and she was very allergic to cats! She was able to do her job because she took a medication.

I am allergic to cats and birds so this may be an allergy. If so you will have to get rid of the cat or take allergy medication every day.

Could be allergy. Don't sit where the cat has sat. Vacuum after the cat to get rid of dander. Give the cat a bath often, if possible.

When you blow your nose...is it yellow or clear? If it is yellow.. you have a cold. If it is clear it is probably a allergy. Wash your hands and stop touching the cat. Do not let the cat go into your bedroom.

It could be a coincedance or you could be allergic to cats, my guess would be the latter. You may get used to it and you may not. :|
