Try this: Make sure the disposal switch is in the off position. Take the handle of a broom stick and put it down the disposal and spin/turn the inside of the disposal counter clockwise (just once around if you can).
Then remove the broom stick, and turn the disposal back on.
That usually works for me.

Most garbage disposals have a nut on the bottom of the unit that can be turned to break the rotating parts free if they are jammed. My disposal came with a wrench to use for this but I think you could find the proper size. The broomstick method is a bit more dangerous for you and the disposal. Look under your sink to see if there is a nut you can turn. If the unit turns freely, then, obviously it is not jammed. If you have checked the fuses/circuit breakers, the unit may be dead.

Check the power source where the disposal is plugged in under the sink then check to see if breaker is tripped at the panel. If you turn on disposal and it hums it's jammed up. You can un jam by using a special Hex head wrench, the hole is on bottom of unit in the center. Make sure power is OFF before doing this. Good Luck

Garbage disposals should be on a dedicated electrical circuit==in other words ==it has its own circuit breaker. Try resetting this breaker----still not working ?----could be the control switch is bad that turns it on. Of course the unit itself could be bad also==or the breaker. Make sure you are pushing in all the way on the re-set button until it "locks in" and re-sets itself. Good Luck.

If the outlet that it's plugged into is working but the motor won't come on and the reset button doesn't help, you may need to buy a new one. I replaced one myself; it isn't that hard if you get the same model you had before.

Did you check the circuit breaker for your house? If so and you tried to rotate the blades manually from the bottom and it still will not work, you may have a bad motor.

It may be clogged. BE VERY CAREFUL and make sure it is off or unplugged and reach down in it and see if there is something there. If you ran it before and it didn't grind the stuff up you may have burned the motor up. If you did then you will have to replace it. They don't cost that much and are easy to install.
