Fill 3 again, pour into 5 = 5/5 + 1/3
Empty 5.
Pour 1/3 into 5 = 1/5
Fill the 3 and add to the 1/5 = 4/5

Hmm, lets see... the difference in the two cans is 2 gallons.
So... you could fill up the 5 gal, pour it into the 3 gal till the 3 is full, then you would know you have 2 remaining in the can.
Pour this into whatever you need to have 4 gal in.
Do this twice and it should work.
Dunno if that is the easiest way, but it should work!

it s easy eh! Pour 5 gal of dayuuuuuum water right into 3 gal can and u'll have 2 gal of water left in 5 gal and empty da 3 gal then pour 2 gal that was left in 5 gal now u have 2 gal of water in 3 gal can aaaaaand finally pour water into 3 gal can (remember u can pour only 1 gal cus it s got 2 gal of water in there already) theeeeeeeeere u have 4 gal of water in 5 gal can lolol

you pour from 5gal can into 3gal can and you would have 2gal left in 5gal can, do the same again and you'll have 4gal of water :)
