I been through metal detectors, luggage x-rays but have never came across a sniffer dog trained to sniff out explosives.

I dont mind the hassle but every checks seemed to be looking for metal, what about plastic explosives, nitro glcerin in water bottles etc etc.

They were more concerned i was bringing in bananas, yet my wife's leatherman sailed right through

The problem with the security is that I do not like being searched more than once. If I have to be screened to go into the airport, thats fine. But once I am in, I should not have to undergo additional searches. If I have to be searched after getting past the ticket counter, someone is not properly doing their job.
Secondly, airports around the country have different rules for what can be carried on and what must be checked. Last year I took a flight to New Orleans to help with the relief efforts and most of my tools were confiscated. I guess they figured I could hijack a plane with a pair of pliers and a wrench.

Because they are concentrating on finding weapons...there are more drugs getting through (from what I have read in the papers)...so the new weapons will probably come in a powder form. I know that some things still get through. Security still varies from airport to airport. e.g. Sometimes I have to take off my shoes and sometimes not. I have watched the employees looking at the scanner and they aren't going to see everything . The last flight I took from LA., this guy and girl were flirting with each other and not paying much attention to the bags going through, and I remember thinking that there could be a bomb or gun for all they knew...it is still open to human error.

This is ridiculous! Flying is such a hassle now!! I can see the future.
We will be stripped naked and herded into the planes like cattle.
Allowed to buy enough approved clothing for the trip you are taking from the airport shop at our destination, then stripped down to our undies again for the trip home..

It annoys me now that they do seriously crazy searches....i'm waitin' 4 when i'll be asked to go pants down at d counter! but if that's what it takes 4 a safe flight,i think i'll go to places i can get to by road.
