If it stays running it is not building back pressure, which will trigger the pump to turn off

It sounds like your fuel pump is receiving power but is not producing the pressure needed to activate the injection system. All never vehicles need a certain amount of pressure before the injectors will work properly. if you remove the line from the fuel filter it will definitely pump a ton of fuel in a short period of time. I’m guessing you made quite a mess when you removed that line. The reason this happens is when you remove the line you are essentially removing all the back pressure of the system this makes the pumps job a lot easier and it will move a lot of fuel but not produce any pressure. When the pump wears out it will not produce the pressure needed for the system to work properly. That is why the pump continues to run as it is still trying to produce enough pressure.

Also if the pressure switch was bad it could cause the pump to continue running but I think the car would still run.

I would park the Rustang at a local used car dealer and purchase something of the Gm variety.

SO it seems you have gas, although it's hard to determine if your injector is spraying the gas. Have you checked for spark? The typical problems when your engine cranks but does not start are not getting fuel, not getting spark, or not correct timing.
