Everyone loses their accent when they sing. They are NOT trying to mimic american accents. It just seems that way because the generic American accent is more precise in pronunciation than the British accent and when people sing their pronunciation becomes more precise because they drop the 'twangs' to vowel sounds they usually make when they speak.

And for the record, most British singers have no interest in breaking into the American market, not at the start of their careers anyway.

No, they don't. Listen to the "When I wake up, yeah I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who's comin' home to you..." song by The Proclaimers.

Scottish all the way throughout the song. And yes, Scots are considered "British" because they are from the United Kingdom.

You said British, not English....

It depends on what they are singing, that is, when you sing and when you speak you tend to imitate the style of someone else. If the singer who inspires you does not have an accent, neither will you.

Some of them don't, e.g Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Oasis....but the fact is that the Rock n' Roll voice originated as the voice of the black American southerner in the 1950's and it just sounds better. It's specifically the voice of the black American southerner that is being emulated not the voice of Americans in general so get it right.

Because the American music market is larger than the British market. I think it's just a matter of numbers.
