I'm 27 weeks pregnant and getting so much heartburn, indigestion etc at night that I'm wondering if it makes me sense for me to eat my main meal at lunchtime and just have something snacky and light in the evening.

My partner works nights and is rarely home in the evening so its not as if I'll be missing out on a "family mealtime" or anything (we have no other kids).

Did anyone else find it helped to eat their main meal at lunchtime and just eat lighter food in the evening? I just seem to feel really sick and horrible after eating a meal at night (usually about 7pm) and it keeps me awake with heartburn all night.

I don't eat late at night so thats not an issue. Plus I've finished work so I'm home most of the day, so its not difficult to eat a meal at lunchtime.

Sadly, Gaviscon and Milk both make me sick! I've been prescribed Ranatidine by my Consultant, it does help to some extent but not always.

I tried sleeping "propped up" by I just can't sleep that way - I have to lie down flat to sleep, otherwise I just stay awake!

At 27 weeks thebaby could be growing some hair as well. Usually hair gives you heartburn or so they say..Another old wives tale there. Eating anytime of the day don't really matter so much as opposed to when you are hungry and what you crave or you have a taste for. If it is the meat , why not try some veggies? Just an idea.. Bake potatoes can be as heavy as a meat and as filling if you add to it. Just a thought. I can't say that anyone pregnant can sleep propped up or has not started disliking milk and such. I am not one to take alot meds nor have I ever . I would find what foods better agree with you. If you want your main meal to be mid day.. go for it by all means caould be that it is when you are th emost hungriest and it better fits your schedule. Try anything once.. Good luck!

Aren't you using Gaviscon? If it's knocking you sick get the remegel - I found them easier. I just ate all day long little meals cos I couldn't "stomach" a big meal at all and constantly ate the remegel. It's just part and parcel unfortunately and not a lot helps, but you definitely will have a baby with loads of hair - that was the first question I asked cos I had been so bad with heartburn (they give you zantac when you go into labour) and when they said "It's a boy" I said "Has he got loads of hair?" and yes he did have!!!! Good luck, get loads of rest and sleep now!!!

It's definitely worked for me. I've been eating a proper meal at lunchtime and something simple like tea and toast of an evening. It's helped me a lot, the heartburn I had was so severe it felt like my chest was on fire. Over the counter remedies didn't seem to touch the sides !

Once i got to my last trimester i couldn't eat a whole meal as my belly was getting so big. I had 4 small meals a day. There are no hard and fast rules about when you should eat a main meal, just do what works for you as long as your eating enough for you and baby that's all that matters. Take care.

Pregnant or not pregnant you are better off eating a decent breakfast, a decent lunch, say 1pm, a light meal around 6pm,, and maybe a digestive biscuit in the evening around 9 or 10pm to stop that hunger feeling. It is the modern way to eat in the evening at around 7pm or later , we always had a dinner at 12 to 1pm and a light tea at around 5pm, you sleep better, food cant digest late at night and you cant burn it off either, all the best !!!!!!!

I don't think it will make much difference as the heartburn is caused by the babies position. I suffered with it when I was pregnant and all I could do was drink milk, take gaviscon and prop my head up with pillows.

I'd suggest small and frequent meals instead of having any one meal be a big one. Eat something about every 2-3 hours all day long. Small and frequent meals will give you a more consistent supply of energy, less chance of nausia and less chance of heartburn.

Dinner should be the lighest meal for everyone and it's best to actually eat several small healthy meals and snacks throughout the day as it keeps blood sugar levels even which is key for weight management and maintaining a healthy weight.

It sounds as thought it would work..Or just eat your dinner a little bit earlier, and make sure you have enough time before you lie down to digest it. Good luck, heartburn is an awful thing.

You should just try it, you'd know after a couple days if it was worth it.

Ive found that anytime i eat a big meal i get heart burn. So i cut my meals in half and just eat all day. It really helps a lot. Plus not eating anything a couple hours before bed is really helpful.
