A cordless keyboard uses infrared LEDs and sensors to transmit the signal to the computer without any wires. It lets you use the keyboard from a greater distance than a standard wired keyboard, which could be good if you're giving a presentation and need to sit back from the screen and computer. There are also wireless mice that use the same technology.
Many laptops today have built-in infrared support, so you don't have to install anything in the laptop to make it work.

I love my cordless keyboard! I can type from any angle and distance, even sideways (and that comes in handy sometimes, heh heh). it frees up a lot of space on your desk, and you don't have to worry about that stupid cord all the time (duh), or the cord getting tangled up and someone tripping on it and pulling your computer off the desk. only problem I've had is putting the keyboard down somewhere and not being able to find it. oh, final disadvantage is the $$ they are more expensive. get the ones that have the combo cordless mouse and keyboard. mine is from hp and it's okay, wouldn't buy it again though because the volume knob snapped off a few days after I bought it -- piece of junk

Cordless keyboard is one type of keyboard using wireless connection called infrared. Some use bluetooth. It is good when you use with laptop. Or in tight place. But you can have some connection problems.

it's not wired into the computer...a sensor is and it sits anywhere on the desk...you can then move the keyboard anywhere you want within several feet of the computer...for instance, on your lap...or mine is at the foot of my bed, and i have a very large monitor...so i can take the keyboard...prop up a few pillows, place the keys in my lap and fully relax in bed while typing out reports or lessons for my website...kinda like using a laptop for convenience, but i get to use the full size keys and not a mini keyboard....it's awesome...i have a multimedia wireless keyboard so with only one button away, i can open my music or movie file, open my documents, mail, search...do just about anything...plus my keyboard has a built in mouse with a tiny joystick on it....very very convenient...i recommend the logitech or microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse....
