I've never taught before. I've danced for 4 years. I will be teaching younger girls. Any suggestions?

Sit down and think how you were taught. What did the teacher start with, what did he/she say. Out of what he said, what worked and what didn't.
You also might think how many lessons per semester do you have. What is your final goal for the class. Based on that, brake it down according to the number of sessions you're going to have.
First class you teach will tell you a lot about what is the level of your students. Test the waters with the first class and adjust your plans. Make sure the first class is FUN so that students decide to stay and return for more.

It depends on how young they are. If they are beginners make it fun, but still teach them the basics and work up from there. After a while if you need to teach them a dance then you can coreograph or just teach them a dance that uses the techniques that they know and a few new ones.

It depends on what you mean by "younger girls". Classes are different for 4 year olds then they are for 7 year olds. You should go observe some other classes for the age group you are teaching. Make sure you keep it fun.

what kind of dance and how old are they? My cousin used to teach preschool ballet and this is what she did. Teach them the five positions (ballet) and some steps like arabesque, pil'e (sp), boure (sp) turns ect.. then make a little dance out of those few steps to a song they'll like. If they like to move around a lot, and you want them to stand in a line, use pieces of tape or flat rubber shapes. Always remind them to stay on their tape or shape. Remember to stretch before class!

If the kids are really young, I'd recommend reading Danceplay: Creative Movement for Very Young Children by Diane Lynch Fraser. It gives some really good tips as well as some dance games you can use.

Keep it fun. I student-taught (without training) back in my teens. As long as you keep it fun and interesting, they'll catch on and enjoy their time with you.
