We have had a severe mole problem in past years, and have not used any chemicals to get rid of them. Some people advocate kill traps. We have lots of barn cats and a couple of digging dogs. The cats are more effective at catching the moles and don't wreck the yard.
The moles are there because there are grubs in the soil...get rid of the grubs and the moles will leave. Sadly, I don't know of any non-chemical way to rid your soil of the food source.
One last item. I have had some success with peppermint oil. All rodents hate the menthol smell and will avoid a rag soaked in the oil. I've used it to get rid of the mice that invade our old farmhouse in the fall, and to chase off moles. Find a mole tunnel that comes close to the surface and dig into it a bit. Stuff in a peppermint soaked rag. Better still, try to find the "escape hatches" or spots where the tunnels open at the soil surface and block them with the peppermint soaked rags.

It is a multi-step process, but I can guarantee the results.

First, buy several cats. Cats are voracious hunters and should be able to eliminate the moles within a year or so.

After that, you'll need to get rid of or at least reduce the cat population. For that I'd recommend golden eagles.

Once the cats are gone, you're not going to want to have giant, hungry birds of prey circling overhead all day. Since nothing really eats eagles, you'll have to get rid of the trees where they nest. There are certain types of beetles that can kill off just about any stand of trees.

The beetles will kill the trees, but can't process them. So you'll need to bring in a mixture of worms, termites, and grubs to break down the trees.

Once the trees are gone, you're not going to want an insect infestation in your yard, so you need to find and animal that can eat a LOT of bugs! For that, I'd recommend the mole. They are incredible eaters and can consume their own body weight in bugs every day.

That should take care of your problem and restore your yard back to a natural, healthy balance. But I should warn you, there is a slight risk of a mole infestation and I don't know how you'd get rid of them.

Castor Bean Plants: Works absolutely and looks great too! Plant them anywhere where moles are.
Big BUT. It's a highly poisoness plant (contains ricine) fatal, when eaten. Not good to have around small children. Most pets stay away..however it's best to do your own research on the castor bean and to use comon sense

For starters, the moles feed on grub worms, the larva of June Bugs, which are attracted to bright light lights, like a mercury vapor light. Replace your night light bulbs with a yellow bulb, which doesn't attract June Bugs. Moles hate mothballs, as do a number of pests, like snakes. Coyote urine, and peppermint oil are also great deterrents. Oddly enough, I used to find them in my pool, and in the skimmer basket. I guess they were attraced to the solar lights floating in the pool.

What I get from this question has nothing to do with a mole in a backyard. I suppose the best way to discourage who you describe - is to ignore them and perhaps they will get bored and go away.

The best way to get rid of moles is to get eliminate their food source. You most likely have grubs in your soil; if you get rid of them the moles will leave.
