Anyone had much luck with soundness after hocks fuse?

Yes, I had a warmblood that had both of his hocks fused. (I'm assuming you mean the surgery - which is expensive) He went on to compete up to Advanced dressage. Its only now (he is 17) that he is starting to get some arthritic changes and stiffness through the joints.

Yes my friend had one that they fused the hock on one side.
The horse returned to light trail riding and was fine after it fused.
It took months of stall rest with hand walking and very light exercise while it was healing. But the horse did ok in the end and so it was worth the time off.

Yes, but it will not be able to return to full work. Meaning you will not be able to ride it has long or as hard as before the injury.
Will take time for the tendons and muscles to build back up. Be sure and rub his legs down after any exercise. Make sure to walk him 2 or 3 times a day. Do not just stick them in a stall and leave them, they still need exercise. Good Luck.

What animal? Do you mean waiting for them to mature? Or fusing because of an injury?
