I think you can guess the answer to this one.

Only buy diamonds from persons you trust. Do you trust some guy with a slick web site?

It depends on where you get it from.

Most wholesalers are reputable companies, you are getting a nice stone at less than retail. When you are shopping around for one, look at the details of what is included. Besides the stone itself, a certificate or report should be included.

If the company does not have a gem report for the stones, look at another store. The only way to know for sure what you are buying is when you get a certified diamond. Anything else may be a poor quality stone. You can't go by pictures on the sites, cameras do not catch the full beauty of a diamond, nor do they show internal flaws, or a low quality cut and color.

If the diamond comes with a report, then it's a safe store to buy from. They are giving you a guaranteed quality stone.

When buying anything online there are certain risks you want to make sure that the seller in question has had the diamonds appraised and its statistics listed such as clairity, carats etc... And that the diamond comes with the appraisal since if the appraisal document has been forged you then have fraud charges that can be pressed against the seller.... So there are risks but in the end you would usually come out on top, Hope that helps!

I would never buy a diamond online, I would want to look at it and examine it, online they could easily send you a "yellow" diamond
which you can see with close inspection, or it could have lots of flaws. I think you should shop locally and not at the malls as they are a rip off but a place like Barmakian's Jeweler's if you have one where you live, they're very reputable.

I did just that this spring, and in this instance it was a total rip off.The diamond, once appraised was not even worth 1/4 of it's stated value and the paperwork was not authentic. There return/exchange policy was even worse. It was a nightmare.Contact your local BBB for reputable sights.

Depends on the site. Check for references and make sure there's a moneyback guarantee. If there's an exceptional return policy you can order the diamond, take it to your local jeweler for appraisal and then if you're not satisfied you can always return it for a full refund. Good Luck!

http://www.bluenile.com is the only diamond site I would trust. They send certification reports with each stone/custom setting.

it seems to me that you are considering the option of bying an item really expensive to begin with, which you will not be able to check out at the time of purchase..is this safe? is it not??
