This really depends on what zone you are in?
If you get cold winters you will want to plant it close to the house on a protected side out of the wind.
If you are in a warmer zone, you can plant it any where you want. If roots was your concern, they do not have invasive roots like a willow.

I`m not a pro mind you but have noticed some of those trees to grow to a very large size 15 feet tall approx and a gerth of 10 feet approx. I`m not sure of the root system but would probably use a rule of thumb of a minimum of 30 feet from a building when planting.

It's totally up to you as the root system won't harm the house but you must think as it becomes larger the branches could be blown onto the house on a very windy day as they do at my place. I have one at the front of my house and it is very very big it worries me sometimes when we have a lot of rain that it may fall onto the house. I would put it a fair way away from the house just to be on the safe side because they do grow very very big.

If you could find out I'd love to know. I bought one recently because it says somewhere on the web that it repels spiders. When I watered it one evening I noticed a great big one had spun a web all over it.
